Tablecloths

handwoven, indigo dyed table runnersOur handwoven tablecloths and table runners will add a comforting touch of warmth to your table, dresser or hutch. Natural indigo blues join with mango to offer a lively tone to these cotton table runners.

Nubbly tablecloths, handspun from organic cotton, take their colours from the warm tones of 3 varieties of heritage cotton: cream, tan and light brown. Others feature traditional patterns. All are dyed with local, organic materials, grown or gathered sustainably in or near the artisans' villages.

Silk & cotton fabric for your art and sewing projects

Attention quilt artists, fibre artists, interior and fashion designers, doll makers and other sewers! We kept you in mind during our recent trip to Thailand in winter 2007-2008. We brought back more than 100 metres of organic, hand-reeled, handwoven heritage silk, dyed in shimmering colours that might stretch notions of what's possible with natural dyes! We also have indigo-dyed cotton yardage and other naturally dyed cotton with the small figured mudmee patterns (sometimes called "ikat") that Thai weavers are known for.

The samples below give you an idea of the range of naturally dyed silks. Contact us to discuss your needs and to buy a sample card for $10.00 CAD plus shipping and handling.

[Please note that the actual colours are more lively than you see on your computer.]

The designs in the 3 mudmee pieces above are created by tie-dyeing the silk yarns before weaving. The pattern then emerges as the fabric is woven on the hand loom, showcasing the skill of the dyer/weaver. The first 2 pieces also have twisted yarns that create a striped effect when woven.

The red piece is a "chute" - 2 metres of this pattern and 2 metres of solid red, woven as one piece. Traditionally the patterned section is made into a tube skirt and the solid section is sewn into a matching top. The weaver spent between 2-3 months to create this organic naturally dyed silk chute.
Size: approx. approx. 1 metre x 4 metres. Price: $280.00 CAD for the piece.

The gold piece is another extraordinary piece of weaving. It combines golden warp (lengthwise) yarns with vibrant red weft (crosswise) yarns.
Size: approx. 97 cm x 4.5 metres. Price: $75.00 CAD/metre.

The slate fabric is a lovely example of mudmee, coloured with butterfly pea flowers. It has a warm greenish tone that may not be apparent on your screen.
Size: approx. 97 cm x 6.5 metres. Price: $75.00 CAD/metre.

We also have a matching solid slate.
Size: approx. 98 cm x 7.5 metres. Price: $40.00 CAD/metre.

Contact us to order any of these pieces. Minimum order for the gold and gray-blue fabrics is 2 metres. HST (in Canada) and shipping will be added.

Care of silks and fine cottons (dry clean or hand wash)

To hand wash:

  • SOAP: Dissolve mild soap in lukewarm water. Soak garment briefly. Work soap through gently; do not wring.
  • RINSE: Rinse until rinse water remains clear. Rinse again with ¼ cup of white vinegar added to the rinse water to neutralize any remaining soap and to restore the fabric’s natural sheen. Rinse once again in clear, cool water to remove the smell of vinegar.
  • ROLL: Roll in a towel to absorb excess moisture.
  • DRY: Dry flat on a towel or hang on a padded hanger. Do not dry in sun or direct heat.
  • IRON: Iron while still slightly damp, at a low-medium temperature for silk, or medium-high for cotton.
If fabric is completely dry, it is important to re-dampen it before ironing.
